Le traitement de la douleur représente un défi médical majeur en raison de sa nature multifactorielle et des réponses variables des individus aux différents médicaments utilisés pour les soulager. Les études précliniques sont une étape déterminante dans la recherche et le développement (R&D) de nouveaux analgésiques plus efficaces et mieux tolérés.
